Fair use policy

Last updated 2026-09-24

Every Magic Receptionist plan includes a pool of voice minutes per month. Past the pool, calls are billed per-minute at the rate listed on your plan. This page explains how the pool, overage, and abuse thresholds work in practice.

What "fair use" means

Fair use is the line between normal business use and behavior that costs us materially more than the plan price covers. Examples of behavior that is in scope of fair use and not covered by the included pool:

  • Mass outbound dialing campaigns from your dedicated number.
  • Automated test loops or stress-testing without prior coordination.
  • Using the platform as a free PBX or unrelated phone-tree backend.
  • Routing volume from a number that doesn't belong to your business.

Overage

If your monthly usage exceeds the pool included on your plan, additional minutes are billed at your plan's overage rate. We send a warning at 80% of the pool and again at 100%. You can set a hard cap in the dashboard if you want billing to stop instead of overage continuing.

Abuse

If we detect behavior outside fair use, we will reach out before any service interruption. If the behavior continues, we may pause inbound traffic to your dedicated agent. We do not silently throttle without notice.

Refunds

Plan fees are non-refundable for the current billing period. Per-minute usage charges are not refundable once the calls have been delivered. If you believe a billing issue is in error, email us within 30 days of the invoice and we'll review it.
